Partnerships, integrations, and infrastructure for a startup. Case study with Facebook iOS SDK
Most founders are faced with the decision of what services and resources to use for product development. One has to choose between a great customer experience and independence from big tech companies. There is no right or wrong answer here. Let’s just talk about cases. Here’s a case study about a method we used to register users in Hola! dating app
We’ve decided to register users in the app with Facebook iOS SDK. It’s very convenient. We solve several problems:
1. Users get an easy way to sign up to the app without having to confirm emails and create a password.
2. We as a team get an existing person with confirmed photos for the profile.
We thought it was a win-win solution. It was an illusion.
Here’s the reality.
1. Facebook support is very slow. If you need to validate your product and developer, you have to wait a long time with unpredictable deadlines.
2. Some users can’t upload their photos from Facebook due to technical issues. Here’s a discussion on GitHub https://lnkd.in/eMxgUagQ.
As a result, we’ve given up registering with Facebook for a while. We are going to use a phone number and SMS confirmation code. We plan to connect a neural network to check our users’ photos for dangerous content.
What’s your experience?
